Lesson One – Circuit Symbols

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise using the correct shapes and symbols to record the structure and layout of a range of different electrical circuits in matching diagrams.
The class can model and record how to build the selected circuits to check that they work correctly to power a range of electrical devices such as bulbs and buzzers.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise using the correct shapes and symbols to record the structure and layout of a range of different electrical circuits in matching diagrams
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify symbols that can be used for electrical components in circuit diagrams and a set of cards to select and record circuit diagrams using the correct symbols to match different statements.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use the correct symbols to record the structure and layout of electrical circuits.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to devise and construct different electrical circuits that can be used to control electrical devices for a range of specific functions in a family home. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
