Lesson Six – Winter Weather

This science teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to observe, describe and keep a record of some of the changes that are occurring in the weather during the winter season.

The class can choose and display special vocabulary words that can be used to describe the daily temperature, wind speed and rainfall experienced during different days in the winter.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe common weather patterns that might be experienced in each of the four seasons of the year, a set of cards to record the daily weather in the school’s area using a range of different symbols and templates observe and record daily weather conditions during the winter for temperature, wind speed and rainfall.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and describe some of the changes that are occurring in the weather during winter season.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify, observe and record some of changes to the natural world during the winter season including changes to daylight hours, temperature and animal habitats. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
