Lesson Three – Plant Groups

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise sorting and organising a range of flowering plants into some different groups using a matching selection of special criteria.

The class can practise using Carroll diagrams to illustrate how plants can be the same or different by the appearance and sizes of their common parts such as the colour shades of petals.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise sorting and organising a range of flowering plants into some different groups using a matching selection of special criteria

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the similarities and differences that can be seen between plants and differentiated templates to group and organise different plants with similar matching features using a Carroll Diagram.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to sort and organise flowering plants into different groups using a matching range of criteria.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify and describe the common parts found on all plants and explain how plants can be used for different functions including food, shelter and clothing. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
