Lesson One – Number Steps

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify, estimate and record the position of different three digit numbers using a number line to indicate their matching and comparative values.
The class can model how to count in steps of one and two to identify the divisions along number lines which can be used when ordering sets of three digit numbers.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to identify, estimate and record the position of different three digit numbers using a number line to indicate their matching and comparative values
Activities in this teaching pack include a set of differentiated worksheets to estimate and record the position of different three digit numbers to six hundred for support ability levels and to one thousand for core and extension ability levels using a number line to indicate their place values.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to estimate the position of different three digit numbers using a number line.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to explore and record how to order three digit numbers by the place value of their digits and how the digits in a number change their numerical values when finding ten and one hundred more or less. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
