Lesson One – Number Counting

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to select and record some of the different ways of changing a range of numbers by counting in matching steps using powers of ten.
The class can generate a range of different five and six digit numbers and then record the sequences of numbers that can be produced when counting in different steps.

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of differentiated worksheets to practise using spinners to select some multiples of powers of ten to utilise when recording the matching sequences of numbers that can result when counting forward in steps of powers of ten from different five and six digit numbers.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and and record ways of changing numbers by counting in different steps using powers of ten.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to explore the properties of different numbers including counting in powers of ten, recording the place value of negative numbers and representing numbers using Roman Numerals. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
