Lesson Two – Temperature Scales

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify and record the values of different temperatures on a range of scales using both positive and negative numbers.

The class can select and devise sets of scales to show the value of different temperatures for each of the selected positive and negative numbers between a matching range of values.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to identify and record the values of different temperatures on a range of scales using both positive and negative numbers

Activities in this teaching pack include differentiated sets of cards to select different positive and negative temperature values to use when plotting their values on scales and a template to record the value of different temperatures on a scale using both positive and negative numbers.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to record the value of different temperatures on a range of scales using positive and negative numbers.

This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to explore the properties of different numbers including counting in powers of ten, recording the place value of negative numbers and representing numbers using Roman Numerals. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
