Lesson Seven – Maya Art and Craft

This history teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to produce models of artefacts to reflect and illustrate some of the special culture and traditions of the Ancient Maya civilization from the past.
The class can produce a label to display with an artefact in a class museum to explain how and why it reflects the culture and traditions of the Ancient Maya civilization.

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of display posters to identify and describe some of the artefacts that have been left behind by the Ancient Maya in the past and a template to select and record information about how and why the Maya used an artefact in the past.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the culture and traditions of the Ancient Maya civilization as reflected in artefacts that they left behind for historians to discover.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to research describe and present information and facts about the culture, traditions and achievements of the Maya civilization in the past . There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and an interactive presentation to introduce concepts and key skills.
