This history scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to research and present the history of buildings and people in local community using a school exhibition. The class can conduct interviews of parents and grandparents to discover how the school neighbourhood has changed since the past.

Lesson One : Old and New
Investigate and present information about some of the different buildings that can be found in the school’s neighbourhood and record their matching locations and functions

Lesson Two : Map Changes
Explain and model how to use maps to identify and record information about some of the changes and developments that have happened to locations in the local area

Lesson Three : Special Places
Practise using photographs to identify and record comparisons between different locations in the local area over a number of time periods

Lesson Four : Local Interviews
Investigate how to interview and question different people about some of the changes and developments that have happened to local community over time

Lesson Five : Exhibition Research
Explore how to research and prepare exhibits to include in a class presentation about some of the changes that have happened in the local area over time

Lesson Six : Exhibition Tour
Investigate how to plan, compose and publish a presentation to describe and compare how life has changed and developed in the local area
