Lesson Six – Weather Testing

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to review the design and materials used in the construction of instruments with movement mechanisms for measuring the weather.

The class can suggest and record improvements to their design based on testing in different aspects of the weather such as wind and rain.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to review the design and materials used in the construction of instruments with movement mechanisms for measuring the weather

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to describe the effect of different types of weather on people, materials and landscapes and a template to evaluate and suggest changes to constructed products of weather instruments against selected design criteria.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to review the design and materials used in the construction of instruments with movement mechanisms to measure the weather.

This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select materials and techniques to utilise when designing and making a range of instruments that can be used measure the local weather around the school. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
