Lesson Two – Instrument Materials
This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to select and describe success criteria that can be used for designing and making a range of instruments to measure different aspects of the weather.
The class can identify and record the properties of different materials to match the intended functions of each weather instrument.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to select and describe success criteria that can be used for designing and making a range of instruments to measure different aspects of the weather
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe materials that can be used to make a particular weather instrument and explain how the weather might affect different materials and a template to predict and record changes that might happen to materials left outside in different types of weather.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore success criteria for designing and making a range of weather instruments.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select materials and techniques to utilise when designing and making a range of instruments that can be used measure the local weather around the school. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
