Lesson Four – Database Questions

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise building a branching database to differentiate between some of the special types of plants that can be found growing around the school grounds.

The class can identify and record effective key questions that can be used to differentiate between plants in a database so that they can be compared.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise building a branching database to differentiate between some of the special types of plants that can be found growing around the school grounds

Activities in this teaching pack include a display poster to explain how to use a branching database to differentiate between flowering plants and a set of cards to select and record key questions about some different plants to support the building of a branching database.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to build a branching database to differentiate between a range of plants found growing around the school grounds.

This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to practise using a branching database to organise and interrogate data collected about flowering plants found in different habitats around the world. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
