Large Ball Skills

This physical education scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to develop, practise and refine a range of different skills to move, pass and target goals when playing team games using large balls. The PE lesson plan gets the class to invent their own games for other pupils to play when demonstrating their skills.

Lesson One : Moving Balls
Practise and develop some of the different skills that are needed when moving a large ball between players during a team game

Lesson Two : Passing Skills
Identify, refine and consolidate a range of different ball control skills that are required when passing a large ball between players during a team game

Lesson Three : Hitting Targets
Practise and refine some of the different ways of shooting and scoring goals during a range of ball games when working as a small sided team to win a game

Lesson Four : Finding Spaces
Develop and refine a range of different skills when learning how to move into open spaces when playing in a team game working with large balls

Lesson Five : New Games
Devise and play a range of different small sided games when using and moving large balls as part of a team to try and win each game

Lesson Six : Game Skills
Identify, practise and teach a range of different skills that are required when playing small sided games using large balls to score goals and hit targets

Sporting Poems
Practise writing poems with patterned language and rhythm structures to describe movements and actions connected to different sports and games

Select powerful and descriptive vocabulary to use in poems describing different types of food and drink that can be enjoyed for a range of meals

Identify, describe and compare some of the different plants and animals that can be found living in a marine habitat including in the sea or on the beach

Investigate and model how to use mental calculation techniques when working with concrete objects and diagrams to identify pairs of numbers that make sums to twenty
