Lesson Four – Taxis

This music teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and test different ways of changing the pitch of a selection of percussion instruments to represent some of the vehicles that might be travelling around a city.

The class can explain and model how to play percussion instruments to produce a range of sounds at high and low pitches to match different vehicles such as taxis.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe ways of playing high and low pitch sounds using percussion instruments and a template to select and record different percussion instruments that can produce high and low pitched sounds to represent city vehicles.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to test ways of changing the pitch of different percussion instruments to represent vehicles in a city.

This lesson is part of a music scheme of work to get the children to practise describing, composing and playing different sounds using high and low pitches to represent vehicles and locations as part of a city location. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
