Lesson Two – Mirror Lines

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to identify and record where to find some examples of vertical lines of symmetry on a range of different 2D shapes.
The class can suggest and illustrate where they might find some examples of the identified shapes in other places at home or in school with the same matching lines of symmetry.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate how to identify and record where to find some examples of vertical lines of symmetry on a range of different 2D shapes
Activities in this teaching pack include a worksheet for core and extension ability levels to record where to find examples of vertical lines of symmetry on different 2D shapes and a set of cards for support ability levels to model how to fold different 2D shapes to indicate any matching vertical lines of symmetry.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and record where to find vertical lines of symmetry on some different 2D shapes.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare different 2D shapes by their matching individual properties including the number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
