Unit K – Shape Matching

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, describe and compare different 2D shapes by their matching individual properties including the number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry. The class can use Venn diagrams and tables to illustrate how to sort shapes into matching sets.

Identify, describe and compare different 2D shapes by their matching individual properties including the number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry

Lesson One : Shape Facts

Explore and record how to select and organise different groups of geometric shapes to match statements about their specific properties

Lesson Two : Mirror Lines

Investigate how to identify and record where to find some examples of vertical lines of symmetry on a range of different 2D shapes

Lesson Three : Shape Groups

Explore how to select and group some different sets of 2D shapes by their matching vertical lines of symmetry using Venn diagrams and tables to present the sorted groups

Lesson Four : Shape Patterns

Practise identifying and describing some of the special patterns that can be created when using different sequences of some 2D shapes

Lesson Five : Shape Changes

Explore and illustrate how to make some different patterns of 2D shapes by changing their size and position for each modelled sequence

  • Maths Measurement Assessment

    Maths Measurement Assessment

Assess abilities in estimating, measuring and comparing a range of different measurements for length, mass and capacity

  • Family Life

    Family Life

Investigate and reflect on some of the special events and experiences that might happen in the life of a family

  • Final Sounds Word Guess

    Final Sounds Word Guess

Practise playing some guessing and matching games to identify the spelling and meaning of words with different final sounds

  • Building Reports

    Building Reports

Explore how to collect facts and information to work with when composing and presenting non-chronological reports about buildings that can be found in the local area
