Lesson Three – Number Pairs

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to identify and model some different matching addition calculations that can make a range of number sums within twenty.

Activities in this teaching pack include differentiated sets of cards to select and record pairs of numbers that can be used to make addition calculations within ten for support ability levels, within twenty for core ability levels and within thirty for extension ability levels.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and model matching addition calculations that can make different number sums to twenty.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise using different mental and informal written calculations to add pairs of one and two digit numbers using concrete objects and diagrams to support calculations. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
