Trick or Treat

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to calculate and record the numbers of sweets that can be gathered when trick or treating on Halloween by adding different pairs of two digit numbers.
The class can practise using partitioning to add pairs of two digit numbers by finding and adding their matching sets of tens and ones to calculate each addition sum.

Activities in this teaching pack include differentiated sets of cards to select different pairs of numbers to twenty for support ability levels, to fifty for core ability levels and to one hundred for extension ability levels to practise adding together and a template of an abacus to model how to add numbers by their matching sets of tens and ones.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to calculate the numbers of sweets that can be gathered when trick or treating on Halloween by adding pairs of two digit numbers.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise solving a range of number problems by adding pairs of two digit numbers using informal and informal methods of calculation including exchange between place value.
