Lesson One – Old and New Buildings

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and illustrate how some of the different buildings that are near to the school have changed and developed over time.

The class can select and record comments and observations about the location, appearance and function of some of the different buildings that can be found in the school’s neighbourhood.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of different buildings that can be found in the school’s neighbourhood and a template to record comments and observations about the location, appearance and function of buildings close to the school.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and illustrate how some of the buildings near to the school have changed and developed over time.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare some of the changes to different buildings that have occurred in the school’s neighbourhood over time. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
