Unit H – Special Family Places

This English scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to read and write poems about different places that are special to families using descriptive vocabulary, spell words containing the vowel digraphs ar and or and practise using and to join words and clauses in sentences about a range of locations.

Lesson One : Digraphs Word Game
Practise playing games to identify and match the spelling and meaning of some different words containing the vowel digraphs or and ar that can be used to describe places to visit

Lesson Two : Sights and Sounds
Explore and record how to link sentence words and clauses using the conjunction and to describe different places that families could visit together

Lesson Three : Location Lists
Investigate and record how to compile lists of special vocabulary words that can be used to describe a special place that a family could visit on an outing

Lesson Four : Special Place Poem
Explore and model how to select and add special vocabulary words to lines for a poem describing a special place that a family could visit together

Lesson Five : Special Places Poetry Book
Explore and record how to edit and make improvements to a poem describing a special place that a family could visit on an outing
