Lesson One – What Sports

This English teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to explore how to identify and describe some of the different sports and games that have been described in diary entries about what happened at the Olympic Games.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and describe how to format and structure a diary entry about competing in an Olympic sport, a set of cards to describe different sports that have been written about in sentences taken from diary entries and a template to record sentences that can be used to describe sports that been included in diary entries.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and describe different sports and games that have been described in diary entries about the Olympic Games.

This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to select matching vocabulary words and sentence structures to use when composing diary entries describing how to participate in different sport competitions at the Olympic games.
