Lesson Six – Testing Scarecrows

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to test and evaluate completed garden scarecrows against the selected success criteria to review the model’s functions when scaring birds away from a garden.

The class can suggest improvements to some of the materials added to their completed models so that they can work effectively to scare birds.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to test and evaluate completed garden scarecrows against the selected success criteria to review the model’s functions when scaring birds away from a garden

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify different ways of changing a built model to match selected success criteria and a template to assess completed scarecrow models against selected success criteria using a graph to indicate evaluations.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to test and evaluate completed garden scarecrow models against selected success criteria.

This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and combine different materials to design and make scarecrows for a garden to match identified success criteria. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
