Lesson One – Vegetable Soup

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select, describe and compare some of the different foods that could be used in a soup recipe that might be sold in a cafe.
The class can identify and classify different types of foods as either vegetables, fruits, dairy or meat that might be used to make a selection of cafe meals.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and classify different types of foods as either vegetables, fruits, dairy or meat, a template and cards to select and record some of the special vegetables that can be used in a soup recipe.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and describe some of the different foods that could be used in a soup recipe sold that might be sold in a cafe.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and combine different ingredients to design and make a range of foods including sandwiches and cakes that can be sold in café in a city location. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
