Lesson Five – Castle Construction

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and combine a range of different materials to build a model of a castle to match selected success criteria.
The class can identify and explain why they might need to use specific materials to construct each part of a castle such as choosing the correct materials to build strong and stable castle walls.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe how to solve problems when building a model of a castle and a table display card to help select and combine materials to make a model of a castle to match success criteria.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to select and combine different materials to build a model of a castle to match success criteria.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to explore and model some of the different shapes and techniques that can be used to construct a model of a castle showing the main parts and their functions. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
