Valentine Shapes

This art and design scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and model how to shape, colour and combine a range of different materials to produce shapes representing themes related to Valentine’s Day. The class can describe techniques that can be used when producing shapes on a specific theme.

Wooden Hearts
Collect and combine a range of natural materials to make symbols of heart shapes when creating decorations to celebrate Valentine’s Day

Valentine Prints
Explore and practise some of the different ways of printing the shape of heart on a card to give to someone special to celebrate Valentine’s Day

Flower Vase
Investigate and practise how to combine different materials when making models of flowers to present to someone special on Valentine’s Day

Identify, match and record the initial sounds that have been used in a range of cvc words beginning with different letters

Family Toys
Investigate and record how a selection of different toys and games that were owned by families have changed and developed over time

Subtraction Digits
Model and illustrate how to subtract pairs of single digit numbers within ten using concrete equipment and diagrams to support the subtraction calculations

Practise composing and presenting some example stories with familiar settings to illustrate things that might be experienced by a family
