Lesson Four – Fish Colours

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and model how to mix different coloured paints to create patterns and designs with the selected colour shades to use on fish sculpture models.
The class can explain and illustrate how to mix different shades of colours including using black and white to make light and dark highlights when creating each part of the fish shape.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the colours that can be seen on fish living in the sea and a template to identify and record some of the different colour shades that can be made by mixing pairs of paint colours to represent parts of a fish.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to mix different coloured paints to create patterns and designs to use on fish sculpture models.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to select, combine and shape different materials to design and produce layered sculptures representing fish that live in the sea. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
