Fish Sculpture

This art and design scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to select, combine and shape different materials to produce layered sculptures representing fish that live in the sea. The class can use other materials to create an impression of the sea for the sculpture’s background.

Lesson One : What Fish
Identify, describe and and compare some of the special patterns, colours and shapes that can be seen on different types of fish that live in the sea

Lesson Two : Fish Shapes
Explain and model how to build and arrange layers of a papier mache material to mould the shape of a type of fish that lives in the sea

Lesson Three : Fish Layers
Describe and illustrate how to mould and arrange different layers of a papier mache material to complete the shape of a type of fish that lives in the sea

Lesson Four : Fish Colours
Identify and model how to mix different coloured paints to create patterns and designs with the selected colour shades to use on fish sculpture models

Lesson Five : Fish Designs
Practise selecting and adding a range of different patterns and colour shades to complete papier mache fish sculpture models

Lesson Six : Sea Shapes
Explain and model how to shape and combine different materials to make models of waves to create the background for a sculpture model of a fish that lives in the sea
