Lesson Three – Buckets and Spades

This numeracy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explore how to use counting on and back to identify pairs of numbers that sum to ten when recording some of the buckets and spades that might be sold in a shop.
The class can practise using concrete equipment to practise subtracting single digit numbers that make number bonds to ten using concrete equipment to match the calculated sums.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explore how to use counting on and back to identify pairs of numbers that sum to ten when recording some of the buckets and spades that might be sold in a shop
Activities in this teaching pack include a template to support counting back to complete subtraction calculations to show the numbers of buckets and spades sold in a shop and a set of cards to identify and match pairs of numbers that make sums to five using concrete equipment and diagrams.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use counting on and back to identify pairs of numbers that sum to ten to show buckets and spades sold in a shop.
This lesson is part of a numeracy scheme of work to get the children to calculate and record the difference between pairs of numbers to ten by counting back to show numbers of items sold in a shop at the seaside. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
