Lesson Five – Shopping Labels

This literacy topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explain and model how to create labels for different shop items and products to work with when role-playing how to buy things from a supermarket.

The class can practise matching and grouping cvc words with the same initial sounds when listing items and products that could be bought during a shopping trip.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the different types of foods that can be sold in a supermarket and a template to build and present a label showing information about one type of food for sale in a shop.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to create food labels to role-play and explain shopping for different items in a supermarket.

This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to read and produce labels to identify and describe items that can be sold in different shops and match initial sounds of words to the correct letters of the alphabet. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
