Lesson Two – Story Events

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify and suggest predictions about different ways that some of the characters might have acted in the traditional story of Hansel and Gretel.
The class can select and record what different characters might have said in response to a story event in Hansel and Gretel such as the children being abandoned in a forest or discovering the cottage.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and describe the sequence and content of narrative events in a traditional story, a set of cards to select and role-play how different characters might affect the outcome of a story and a worksheet to choose cvc words and make models of story objects that begin with the same initial sounds.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to suggest predictions about different ways that characters might act in a traditional story.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to investigate some of the different characters, settings and plot events used to tell a traditional story and identify letters that match initial sounds of words. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
