Lesson Three – Footwear

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to name, describe and compare some of the special materials that can be used for footwear so that it is waterproof from the rain and walking in puddles.

The class can test and sort a range of different materials into matching groups to show which ones might keep their feet wet or dry when playing or walking outside in the rain.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify vocabulary words that can be used to describe different types of footwear, a template to select and record different materials that have waterproofing properties for footwear and a worksheet to record the design for footwear that will be suitable for different functions.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the special materials that can be used to waterproof footwear.

This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to investigate and test some of the properties of different materials that can be used for clothing to provide protection from the rain.
