Keeping Dry

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate and test some of the properties of different materials that can be used for clothing to provide protection from the rain. The class can select the designs for boots, hats and umbrellas to keep them dry when outside in the rain.

Identify, describe and compare some of the different types of clothing that can be worn for a range of functions, experiences and events

Lesson Two : Waterproofing
Identify, describe and test different types of materials that can be used for waterproofing a range of items of clothing including hats for wearing outside

Lesson Three : Footwear
Name, describe and compare some of the special materials that can be used for footwear so that it is waterproof from the rain and walking in puddles

Lesson Four : Waterproof Hat
Investigate and explain how to select a range of different types of materials by their matching properties to use when making an item of clothing that is waterproof

Lesson Five : Umbrellas
Identify and model how to design and test a waterproof umbrella using a range of different materials to make each of the parts
