Lesson One – What Buildings

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify and describe the functions of some of the different types of buildings that can be found in the local area close to the school.
The class can name and describe the functions of each of the identified buildings to suggest how a family might need to use each particular place in the local area.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the function of different types of buildings, a template to record some of different types of buildings that can be found in the local area close to the school and a set of cards to select the names of buildings to use when making models.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the different types of buildings that can be found in the local area.
This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to investigate, describe and compare some of the different types of homes found in the local area around the school environment. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
