Autumn Trees

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate changes to trees during the autumn and explore how this affects animals that live in a woodland habitat. The class can select special vocabulary words to describe how trees change in the autumn.

Identify and describe some of the different shapes and patterns that can be seen on leaves that have fallen from trees in the autumn

Lesson Three : School Trees
Identify and record the differences between different trees in the school grounds using vocabulary words for size and shape

Lesson Four : Changing Trees
Identify and describe some of the changes that can happen to trees during different seasons of the year

Lesson Five : Squirrels
Investigate how squirrels use trees in different ways during the autumn to collect food and provide protection from the weather

Lesson Six : Woodland Owls
Explore and make models using a range of materials showing a type of animal that lives in the trees found in a woodland habitat

Practise using vocabulary words and non-standard measurements to find and compare the length of different things that can found in a garden
