Lesson Six – Special Books

This religious education teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to identify and record the function and importance of some of the special books that are used in Islam and by family groups and communities.
The class can select and illustrate why a specific type of book is special and important to their own family such as a photo album or a favourite book of traditional stories.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and explain the importance of different books to groups and communities, a template to select and record information about a book that is important to a group or community and a worksheet to complete sentences describing why a book is important to someone.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record the importance of some of the special books used in Islam and by family groups and communities.
This lesson is part of a religious education scheme of work to get the children to explore and illustrate some of the different stories, beliefs and practices of the Islamic religion including special festivals and sacred texts. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
