Garden Planting

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and record the height in whole centimetres of different pairs of plants and flowers that have been planted in a family garden.
The class can explain and model how to partition the selected numbers into their sets of tens and ones to make it easier to add the measurements in centimetres together to calculate each height.
Download this teaching pack including classroom activities and an interactive presentation to select and record the height in whole centimetres of different pairs of plants and flowers that have been planted in a family garden
Activities in this teaching pack include a set of differentiated worksheets to select pairs of measurements in whole centimetres to practise calculating the height of different plants and flowers working with numbers to twenty for support ability levels, to thirty for core ability levels and to fifty for extension ability levels.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to calculate and record the height in centimetres of pairs of plants and flowers that have been planted in a garden.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise mental and informal written techniques for addition calculations to solve problems involving measurements for length, mass and capacity. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
