Lesson One – Classroom Heights

This numeracy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate and practise different ways of comparing the height of classroom objects using non-standard measurements.
The class can select and record examples of different objects that are taller or shorter than towers with a range of numbers of cubes or other objects used for work in the classroom.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to investigate and practise different ways of comparing the height of classroom objects using non-standard measurements
Activities in this teaching pack include worksheets to record a selection of objects that can be found around the classroom that are taller or shorter than different towers of cubes and a template to make comparisons between pairs of classroom tools
The interactive presentation gets the children to identify and explain how to use non-standard measurements to compare the height of different objects.
This lesson is part of a numeracy scheme of work to get the children to practise and model different ways of measuring and comparing the length, height, volume, capacity and mass of different objects by using counting skills. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
