Lesson Five – School Scarecrow

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and record some of the different materials that can be used to produce a model of a garden scarecrow that meets the chosen success criteria.

The class can explain and model how to combine and shape a range of different materials to utilise when producing each part of their garden scarecrows models.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify effective materials that could be used to build a scarecrow and a worksheet to select and match the properties of different materials to each part of a scarecrow that can be used to scare birds in a garden.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the different materials that can be used to produce a model that meets the chosen success criteria.

This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and combine different materials to design and make scarecrows for a garden to match identified success criteria. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
