Lesson Six – Footsteps

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to test and record some of the different ways that can be used to try and stop sounds from travelling through a range of materials by preventing vibrations from occurring.

The class can suggest and model solutions to prevent noises from interrupting the headteacher in their school office when footsteps are heard outside.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to test and record some of the different ways that can be used to try and stop sounds from travelling through a range of materials by preventing vibrations from occurring

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify suitable materials that can be used for soundproofing and a template to identify and record different ways of preventing sound from travelling by using a range of materials to prevent vibrations from occurring.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and test different ways of stopping sounds from travelling through a range of materials.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify how sounds are made by vibration, investigate ways of changing pitch and volume and test how some materials can be used for soundproofing. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
