Lesson Two – Preparing Vegetables

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and model some of the different ways that can be used to prepare a range of vegetables to make and cook foods to serve in a cafe.

The class can practise using different tools and equipment to measure, cut and shape a selection of vegetables that can be prepared for use in each of the cafe meals.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe different ways of preparing foods using a range of cooking actions and a worksheet to select vegetables and cooking actions to use when practise preparing foods to make a range of meals to serve in a cafe.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore different ways of preparing a range of vegetables to use when cooking foods for cafe.

This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and combine different ingredients to design and make a range of foods including sandwiches and cakes that can be sold in café in a city location. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
