Lesson One – Weather Sounds

This music teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore and model some of the musical techniques that can be used to create sounds representing different types of weather that might be experienced close to the school.

The class can select and use shapes to make musical scores of their compositions to show what is happening in the weather.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe sounds that can be heard in different types of weather and a template to select and record different rhythm patterns that can represent a specific type of weather that might be experienced close to the school.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the musical techniques that can be used to create sounds representing different types of weather.

This lesson is part of a music scheme of work to get the children to practise composing and performing four beat rhythm patterns to reflect ideas and expressions illustrating the weather. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
