Lesson Three – Roman Army

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the extent of the Roman Empire by AD 117 and show examples of artefacts and replicas of equipment used by the Roman army, a shared reading text to identify and describe the structure of the Roman army and its importance in the expansion of the Roman Empire and a table display card and template to suggest and record answers to questions about what a primary source can teach historians about the past.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how the Roman army was structured and supported the Roman empire in the past.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to investigate some of the reasons for the growth of the Roman Empire in the past and why the Romans invaded ancient Britain.
