Lesson Two – Nativity Recounts

This religious education teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to model how to write a recount of an event in the nativity story from the viewpoint of one of the main characters in the sequence of events.
The class can select and use adverbials of time to specify when, how long or how often things happened in an event in the nativity story to use when structuring and formatting their recounts.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and describe the sequence of events in a story from the Bible about the birth of Jesus, a worksheet to write a recount of a scene from the Nativity story from the viewpoint of one of the characters, a vocabulary word bank to select time adverbials to sequence events in recount writing and a template to structure and format a recount of scene in the Nativity story from the viewpoint of one of the characters.

This lesson is part of a RE and English scheme of work to get the children to explore and record some of the main events occurred surrounding the birth of Jesus by composing a range of different texts to sequence and illustrate what happened. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
