Lesson One – Habitat Groups

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate and illustrate some of the different ways of grouping and classifying species of animals that live in specific habitats around the world.
The class can select and record a list of living things to match a particular habitat and suggest how they can be classified into matching groups for their individual characteristics.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to explain how to differentiate between different animals that live in a specific habitat and templates to identify and record different living things that can be found in a specific habitat in the world and illustrate ways of sorting animals into groups by their individual characteristics.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the different ways of grouping and classifying animals that live in specific habitats.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify, group and compare some of the different plants and animals that live in a variety of habitats around the world. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
