Lesson Two – Testing Liquids

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to name, describe and compare different types of liquids and conduct a range of tests to identify their matching properties.

The class can identify true and false facts that can be used to identify whether a specific type of material can be classified as a liquid based on how it can move and change shape.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to name, describe and compare different types of liquids and conduct a range of tests to identify their matching properties

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify statements that can be used to classify different types of materials and a table display card to support investigation of the similarities and differences between different types of liquid using a range of scientific equipment.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explain how a material can be classified as a liquid by its matching properties and how to conduct tests to illustrate what makes a liquid special and distinct from other materials.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to explore, test and explain how a range of different materials can change their states between solids, liquids and gases by conducting a series of fair tests. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
