Lesson One – Chewing and Swallowing

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to name and locate the main organs in the digestive system and identify the sequence of events connected to the process of chewing and swallowing food, a set of cards to record what happens when chewing and swallowing food and a template to locate and label each of the organs that can be found in the human digestive system.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to compose a diary entry to describe the movement of a vegetable from the mouth to the stomach.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify and describe the functions of some of the different parts of the digestive system and the importance of eating foods as part of a healthy lifestyle. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
