Lesson Four – Digesting Food

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify, describe and record some of the benefits that different types of foods can have on the body during the process of digestion.
The class can select and list different foods that the human body can extract nutrients from during the digestive process that can be used for growth, movement or health.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the functions of different types of foods processed during digestion and a set of cards to sort between a range of different foods for growth, movement and health as part of the digestive process.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the benefits that different types of foods can have on the body during the process of digestion.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify and describe the functions of some of the different parts of the digestive system and the importance of eating foods as part of a healthy lifestyle. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
