Lesson Two – Forcemeters

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise using forcemeters to measure and record the force that is required to move objects made from different materials over a range of surfaces.
The class can identify and explain how to record accurate measurements to demonstrate how friction can act with a low or high resistance between different materials.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise using forcemeters to measure and record the force that is required to move objects made from different materials over a range of surfaces
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the properties of some different materials to use when testing friction and a worksheet to measure and record the amount of force required to move a brick across different surfaces.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to use forcemeters to measure the force required to move objects over different surfaces.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to investigate, describe and test the effects of air and water resistance and friction on a range of different objects and materials presenting results using graphs and tables. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
