Lesson Eight – Solar System Model

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore how to design and build a model to demonstrate how each of the different planets and satellites in the Solar System move through space.

The class can practise annotating their models to identify and explain what makes each of the selected celestial bodies special and unique in the Solar System.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explore how to design and build a model to demonstrate how each of the different planets and satellites in the Solar System move through space

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe different celestial objects in the Solar System and a worksheet to build a scaled model of the different planets found in the Solar System when using information contained in a database.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to design and build a model to demonstrate how planets and satellites in the Solar System move in space.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the Solar System by using practical models and researching information. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
