Lesson One – Racquets and Balls

This physical education teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how to develop and practise a range of skills when controlling the movements and position of a ball when using a tennis racquet.

The class can build obstacle courses to follow around when moving with a tennis ball that has been balanced on top of a racquet so that it does not fall the ground.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate how to develop and practise a range of skills when controlling the movements and position of a ball when using a tennis racquet

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to practise moving over and around different objects with a ball that has been balanced on a racquet and a set of cards to select and plan an obstacle course to use when moving and controlling a ball on top of a tennis racquet.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and practise a range of skills to use when controlling a ball that is balanced on the top of a tennis racquet.

This lesson is part of a physical education scheme of work to get the children to develop and refine some of the skills that are needed when playing different strokes and shots during a game of tennis. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
