Lesson Two – Rainforest Rhythms

This music teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore and model different ways of playing and recording a range of rhythm patterns to reflect a rainforest location and some of the animals that live in these regions in the world.

The class can identify and match beats in a rhythm pattern to the syllables in different word phrases that can be used to describe what makes a rainforest habitat special.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to practise performing different word phrases to represent sounds that might be heard in a rainforest and a worksheet to devise and play rhythm patterns to represent different sounds related to animals that can be found living in a rainforest.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore different ways of playing and recording rhythm patterns to reflect what makes a rainforest location special.

This lesson is part of a music scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compose a selection of rhythm patterns to use in musical compositions reflecting and illustrating life in a rainforest location. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
